Counseling and Training Clinic

The Counseling and Training Clinic offers counseling to individuals, couples, families, and children free of charge.

All sessions are facilitated by counselor trainees. Sessions are completely private and confidential and are supervised by fully trained licensed professionals in an environment of safety and trust.

Details:

Our personal skills group is completely free, confidential, and run by trained professionals. The group is based on dialectical behavioral therapy, a treatment approach that emphasizes building on strengths to foster positive behavior and self-image.

Develop skills to:

  • Handle and cope with difficult emotions (anger, fear, sadness anxiety)
  • Improve personal relationships
  • Learn and practice mindfulness

Schedule: Thursdays

  • Mommy & me (moms and kids ages 1 - 3): 11 - 11:30 am, followed by nutrition training 11:30 am - 12 pm.
  • Kids yoga (ages 4 - 8): 1 - 2 pm

Who is eligible: Mother and child teams in which the mom and/or child is participating in counseling services

Details:

Mommy and Me - Ages 1 - 3 years (30-minute class) 
Looking for a simple way to connect both emotionally and physically with your baby? Try our Mommy and Me Yoga class. In our class, we will help your baby perform simple stretches with playful music and some simple props thrown in the mix to engage and stimulate the minds of our little yogis.

Kids Yoga - Ages 4 - 8 years (1-hour class) 
Our kids’ yoga classes will help kids get in touch with their bodies, strengthen and relax their muscles and develop coordination, focus and confidence. We will practice kid style asanas (postures) and pranayama (breathing) in a playful, supportive and safe environment.

Scientific evidence suggests that yoga can help improve physical and mental health across a wide range of ages and health statuses. Benefits range from reducing pain and preventing falls to boosting mood and easing depression and anxiety. The yoga therapy group is meant to supplement other therapy treatments.

The yoga classes will be facilitated by a skilled and certified instructor.

Tai chi is a martial art practiced for both self defense and health benefits. Details:

The group is designed to help participants develop skills to recognize anger early, express anger, and understand consequences associated with anger outbursts. It is meant to supplement other therapy treatments

All sessions take place at the Counseling and Training Clinic on the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi campus. 

The clinic is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 11 am - 8 pm. Offices are closed during university holidays. Please call first to check our schedule. For emergencies or after hours, dial 911.
